The Chiofaro Company

Form + Place is working with The Chiofaro Company and landowners to reposition a narrow strip industrially zoned land along South Pleasant Street near Waverley Square in Belmont. Located close to an MBTA commuter rail station and across from McLean Hospital, Form + Place helped rewrite the zoning to create the new South Pleasant Street Overlay District, providing greater flexibility to accommodate a variety of redevelopment strategies, including multi-family residential. The current 55+ residential study provides 87 units – a mix of 1 and 2 bedrooms – organized around two courtyards that connect to common amenity space at the ground level. The entire building sits atop a partially submerged parking plinth that takes advantage of the sloping site. An ideal location for multi-family residential, the South Pleasant Street project is within walking distance of the train, supermarket and retail shops at Waverley Square, as well as an extensive network of open space and recreation areas found in the local area.
