This beautiful West Newton home, built in 1890, sits on a prominent corner site equally addressing two thoroughfares. With two teenage children, the owners were looking to increase the functionality of their home by constructing a new master bathroom addition on the second floor, as well as a mudroom addition on the ground floor intended to reconfigure the back entrance off the existing kitchen. The mudroom addition includes built-in mill work and a laundry/pantry area, while providing a new covered entry porch that extends out to the south towards the driveway and garage. The massing, characterized by a three-sided hip roof with a second floor gabled dormer was purposefully designed to step down the scale of the house, so as to have minimal impact on the back yard. Construction completed in the summer of 2014.
