This very "intimate" parcel in Auburndale presented challenging setbacks that truly shaped the form of this garage / master bedroom addition. Using the unusual roof forms of the existing home, including a wrapping lower eave and shed dormers, a new volume "telescopes" off the east end of the house, helping to mediate the scale of the overall composition. A two-story gabled addition at the rear of the house allows for the expansion of the kitchen area as well as the incorporation of two full bathrooms upstairs. The volumetric massing studies produced during the schematic design phase provided confirmation that the addition would prove contextual, despite being inches from two setback lines.
